Another female has won Nigeria’s second medal, a silver on Tuesday in the 68kg freestyle event. She is Blessing Oborududu. She took the silver when American wrestler Tamyra Mensah-Stock,beat her 4-1 in the final to claim gold. She joins Ese Brume, who had earlier in the day won bronze in the Long Jump with 6.96m leap.
Before claiming the victory and medal, Oborududu had defeated Meerim Zhumanazarova of Kyrgyzstan 3-2 in qualifying for the semi-finals on Tuesday and then proved herself again as an Olympic champion of note with a 7-2 outclassing of Mongolia’s Soronzonboldyn Battsetseg.
Brume and Oborududu have improved on Nigeria’s medal place with their bronze and silver medals and gives Team Nigeria the hope for more in the final stretch of the Summer Games.
