Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo has commended practicing journalists in the state for exhibiting high level of Professionalism in carrying out their constitutional duties.
Governor Ododo gave the commendation while speaking at the 2026 Press Week organized by the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Kogi State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), held in Lokoja on Thursday.
He appreciated practicing Journalists in the state for their constructive criticism that has helped the present administration serve the people better
“We appreciate the goal of the Media in promoting good governance. We also identity with the Media that points out our shortcomings for improvement in service delivery”
Governor Ododo who was represented by the State’s Commissioner of Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo called on Journalists to sustain the spirit of objective, accurate, and balanced reportage of their immediate society.
He admonished them to shun sensational journalism capable of throwing the nation into chaos and crisis as the case maybe.
“As mirror of the society, Journalists must base their reports on truth, facts, and balanced account in course of carrying out their constitutional duties” the governor emphasized.
The governor however, gave the assurance that his administration will continue to provide enabling environment for Journalists in the state to practice their profession without fear or favor.
Earlier in his welcome speech, the Chairman Correspondents’ Chapel of the Kogi State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Segun Salami also of the Channels Television, said that the Press Week was dedicated to celebrate service, sacrifice, and commitment to advancing humanity.
“It provides a platform for us to engage with stakeholders, review the role of the media in society, and chart new paths for ethical journalism. The week is also a time to appreciate individuals and organizations who have made remarkable contributions to societal development”
Salami promised that Journalists would continue to stand firm in the pursuit of truth, accountability, and responsible governance.
Adeiza Momohjimo, Vice-president Zone D of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), in his goodwill message, lauded the prevailing cordial relationship between government and practicing journalists in the state.
He urged Journalists to be professional in carrying out their election duties during the up coming general polls in the country, emphasizing that they should be fair to all political parties.
The Royal Father of the Day, the Ohimege-Igu of Koton-Karfe, His Majesty, Alhaji Saidu Salihu, in his remarks, praised Journalists for shaping the society through developmental journalism.
The traditional ruler thanked Kogi NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel for according him the recognition to be part of the ceremony and pledged to continue to play advisory role that would enhance its activities in the state.
