Presidential candidate of the Labour Party Mr Pater Obi on Monday further outlined the policies of his presidency if elected in the 2023 general elections in Nigeria, during an address at Chatham House in London.
He spoke on his determination to fight corruption, reduce cost of governance and run an inclusive government that would return Nigeria to the part of growth and development beneficial to its 200 million citizens.
During the question and answer session, he dealt with issues related to insecurity, electricity generation, enabling foreign investment, health and Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.
Explaining that insecurity was enabled by poverty and unemployment, he said he would hit the ground running if elected and immediately set about tackling youth unemployment that was responsible for agitation in the country, fueling call for secession in the Southeast and self-determination in the Southwest.
“Unemployment causes massive agitation. What you are seeing in the country is government failure over the years but an inclusive government that we would instal if we win, all the agitation would stop. Even in my house, people are agitating,” he said.
In his answer to how he would handle a National Assembly peopled with a majority of legislators from different political platform considering Labour Party’s low number of candidates for the election, he said that he habours no fear since his policies would not be based on transactional politics.
He assured his audience that foreign investors would have a safe haven to invest because he would make the environment conducive by tackling factors that usually scare them; corruption, lack of rule of law and insecurity.
