Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, alongside former Kano State Governor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, on Sunday, held a closed-door meeting with leaders of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) at the Abuja residence of the party’s National Leader, Seriake Dickson.
The high-level political meeting, held at Dickson’s residence in Guzape, is believed to be part of ongoing consultations and strategic realignments among opposition figures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
THISAGE gathered that Obi and Kwankwaso arrived at the residence at about 5:18 p.m., attracting a large crowd of supporters under the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement, popularly known as the “OK Movement”.
Supporters gathered around the venue chanting solidarity songs and repeatedly singing “O-K is okay” as both politicians were ushered into the premises for the private meeting.
Kwankwaso appeared in a white babanriga paired with his trademark red-and-white Kwankwasiyya cap, while Obi was dressed in an all-black kaftan with a matching black cap.
The atmosphere around the residence reflected growing excitement among supporters and coalition loyalists amid increasing speculation over a possible political alliance involving both opposition figures.
“I don’t want to violate any electoral rules but we have seen very handsome, very qualified, very suitable suitors and we can pronounce you in-laws.” Sen. Henry Seriake Dickson said as he welcomed Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to the NDC.
Sunday’s meeting came only a few hours after Obi officially announced his resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing worsening internal crisis, political hostility and external interference allegedly threatening the stability of opposition parties.
The meeting also took place less than 24 hours after elder statesman and Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Buba Galadima, disclosed that two prominent politicians would unveil a new political platform on Monday.
Galadima made the revelation during a stakeholders’ meeting of the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement in Abuja amid growing uncertainty surrounding opposition coalition talks and ongoing political negotiations ahead of the next election cycle.
Although Galadima did not specifically mention the platform expected to be unveiled, sources close to both Obi and Kwankwaso disclosed that discussions had reached advanced stages regarding their alignment with the NDC, a relatively new political platform reportedly linked to Dickson.
Political insiders familiar with the ongoing consultations said Sunday’s meeting focused on coalition arrangements, party structure, strategic mobilisation and broader opposition unity efforts ahead of 2027.
THISAGE gathered that several political associates, lawmakers and coalition loyalists linked to both Obi and Kwankwaso were also present within the vicinity of the meeting venue, further fueling speculation that formal political alignments may soon be announced publicly.
The meeting comes at a time of heightened political manoeuvring among opposition leaders seeking to build a united front capable of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential election.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Obi, Kwankwaso nor the NDC had officially disclosed details of the closed-door discussions or publicly confirmed any formal political alliance.
