Ambassador Nanyah Andrew Daman, Chairman Action Democratic Party, (ADP) has praised former President Olusegun Obasanjo for, according to him, speaking the minds of many Nigerians who voted for real change under the ruling All Peoples Congress, APC but now have to contend with hunger, mutual ethnic distrust, sectarianism and a divided polity two years down the line of the current administration.
It would be recalled that former President Obasanjo wrote a letter to President Buhari, criticising his poor handling of the economy and advising him not to run in the 2019 presidential poll.
He said; “Nigeria prayed for true change but not of this nature that we have witnessed in the land in the past two years ,it is good and natural that the Senate and House of representative effect change on the 2010 electoral act to ensure proper arrangement are reverse from the Presidency to come lack while the senate ,House assembly ,other came first before rounding up with the president.
“The nepotism, clannishness, increasing violence, kidnapping and hunger is too much for the health of our beloved country Nigeria. The suffering in the land is too much. Now that Obasanjo has spoken up, it is left for politicians and Nigerians to join hands to strive to deepen democracy. My advice also is that President Buhari should heed his call and turn a new path. That crowd that welcomed him in Kano recently is a rented one. The truth is that many Nigerians who voted for him have become disappointed. The popularity he has enjoy since 2015 has dwindled due to poor performance and lack of internal democracy under his administration”
Daman who spoke to journalists at the party secretariat in Jos, against the backdrop of preparations of his party for the February 11 local government polls in the state also accused the state government of plotting to subject the opposition parties to untold hardship with the active connivance of Plateau State Electoral Commission, PLAISEC, of embarking on door to doors electioneering campaign over lack of funds and clear vision of moving political campaign forward.
Amb Daman gave this countdown on the forthcoming Local Government election in Plateau state scheduled for February to journalists at the party Secretariat on Thursday in Jos .
He explained that the Plateau state governor has promised to conduct hitch free election and we are fully prepare with 18 Councillorship candidates and chairmanship who are chosen by the people through free primaries .
According to him, “we have a lot of challenges with the Plateau State independent Electoral Commission ,PLASIEC , because the chairman and his commissioners took the matter personal with ADP by clearing our candidates in two local government areas, that is in Kanam LGA and the Jos North LGA. Many of our candidates were denied forms in a plot to disenfranchised them from contesting the chairmanship race across the 17 LGAs.”
