OAU Professor Slumps, Dies During Departmental Meeting

A senior lecturer at Obafemi Awolowo University , Ile-Ife, Professor Jimoh Olanipekun, has passed away after collapsing during a departmental meeting on Wednesday.

Olanipekun, a respected scholar in the Department of Philosophy, was said to have suddenly developed complications while attending the meeting.

His colleagues, noticing his labored breathing, immediately rushed him to the university’s Health and Medical Centre for urgent medical attention.

A statement issued by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, confirmed that upon medical evaluation, he was referred to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex  where he was pronounced dead.

OAU’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Bamire, led members of the university’s management team on a condolence visit to the late professor’s family.

Expressing shock over the tragic incident, Bamire described Olanipekun as a brilliant scholar who dedicated his life to academic excellence.

He urged the bereaved family to find comfort in the professor’s legacy of impact, noting that, “As Christians, we must remember that the Lord gives and takes as He pleases.”

The vice-chancellor extended heartfelt sympathies to the Department of Philosophy, the Faculty of Arts, and the entire university community, praying for strength to bear the loss.
