Nurses Deny Suspending Strike

Striking nurses have denied calling off their strike, saying that the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof Mohammed Pate was wrong to say so.

The National Chairman of NANNM, Morakinyo Rilwan, said it was not true the strike had been called off.

Rilwan told Daily Trust: “If it was the Minister who organised the strike, then he could call it off.

“As far as I’m concerned, the strike organised by the association is still ongoing.

“The Minister didn’t organise the strike, so he doesn’t have the authority to call it off.

“There are procedures to follow if it is to be called off  at all.”

Earlier, National Public Relations of the association,Omomo Tobeibe said the strike which began on Wednesday was still ongoing despite a meeting with the Minister on Friday, adding that the National Executive Council of the organization will meet on Saturday to review the outcome of the meeting with the Minister and determine the next line of action.
