Trading on the floor of Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) closed on a positive note for the second time in the week as the key market indicators gained 0.26 percent on Wednesday, bringing the year to date return to 37.90 percent.
The All Share Index closed at 37,059.21 against the previous close of 36,962.48 while Market Capitalization closed at N12.773 trillion against previous close of N12.740 trillion. Volume traded increased by 8.17 percent from 244.315 million to 264.287 million.
The total value of stock traded increased by 50.59 percent from N3.673 billion to N5.531 billion in 3,849 deals. The Financial Services sector led the activity chart with 227.357 million shares exchanged for N3.411 billion, followed by Industrial Goods with 14.294 million shares traded for N0.42 billion.
Consumer Goods, Conglomerates, Agriculture sectors followed in that order on the activity chart. Zenith Bank Plc, United Bank for Africa Plc, Guaranty Trust Bank Plc, Access Bank Plc and FBN Holding Plc were the most active stocks by volume.
Caverton Off Shore Plc, United Capital Plc, Livestock Feeds Plc, Access Bank Plc and Neimeth Pharmaceutical Plc emerged the highest price gainers, while Skye Bank Plc, 7Up Bottling Company Plc, Total Nigeria Plc, AXAMansard Insurance Plc and Flourmill Nigeria Plc topped the loser’s table.
In all a total of 88 companies shares were traded with 17 gainers and 21 losers while 50 stock share price did not change.
