The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party has expelled Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, the lawmaker representing Kiru/Bebeji Constituency in the House of Representatives, over alleged anti-party activities and failure to meet his financial obligations.
State Chairman of the NNPP, Alhaji Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, announced the expulsion at a press briefing in Kano on Saturday.
According to him, Jibrin’s repeated media attacks against the party and its leadership, as well as his open declaration of loyalty outside the party, necessitated the action.
He dismissed the lawmaker as a “weak politician” whose electoral victory was only possible through the Kwankwasiyya movement and the NNPP platform.
“If he was truly strong politically, he would have won under the APC, but he failed.
“It was when he joined the NNPP through Kwankwasiyya that he became a House of Reps member. Now he is deceiving himself, thinking he is strong,” Dungurawa said.
He explained that a reconciliation committee had been set up to address Jibrin’s comments during a Channels Television interview, but said his subsequent actions showed defiance.
Dungurawa further alleged that Jibrin defaulted in paying his statutory party dues and vowed to take legal action to recover the funds.
He stated, “We will drag him to court to recover what he owes the party. It is a constitutional requirement for every member to pay dues, but he has consistently failed to do so.”
On speculations that Jibrin may defect to the APC, Dungurawa maintained that such a move would not weaken the NNPP, insisting that Kwankwasiyya remained solidly behind its leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
