President Bola Tinubu has described the four officers and 13 soldiers killed in Okuama, Delta State on March 14, 2024 as patriots, brave and noble men while bestowing posthumous national honours on them on during their burial on at the National Cemetery in Abuja on Wednesday.
The four gallant Officers have been accorded the Award of Member of the Order of Niger (MON) while the 13 courageous soldiers who also lost their lives have been Awarded the Officer of the Federal Republic (OFR) Medal.
The four military officers, Lt.Col Ali, Major Obi, SD Ashafa and Captain Zakari earned the posthumous award of Member of the Order of the Niger(MON).
Sergeant Yahaya Sule got Federal Republic Medal 1, while the rest got Federal Republic Medal 11.
The President said that the Federal Government will provide a house in any part of the country to each of the families of the four officers and 13 soldiers.
Also, he said that the Federal Government has approved scholarships to all the children of the deceased up to the university level.
The President mandated the Military to, within the next 90 days, ensure that all the benefits of the departed are paid to their families.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria spoke on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at the National Cemetery in Abuja during the burial of the fallen soldiers.
Tinubu arrived the National Cemetery at about 4:08 p.m.
Tinubu stated that Nigeria owes these valiant soldiers and their families debt of gratitude
The President vowed that those who committed the heinous crime of killing the officers and soldiers will not go unpunished, stating that “We will find them and our departed heroes will get justice.”
