Brigadier General Abdullahi Maikano of the Nigerian Army has been elected President of Organisation of Military Sports in Africa (OSMA), on Thursday at Younde, Cameroon, in a keenly contested election in which he beat two other candidates from Algeria and Guinea with a wide margin.
In an election in which delegates from 51 African countries participated, Gen Maikano of Nigeria polled 66.67%, to defeat his challengers from Algeria who polled19.05% and another from Guinea who came third with a miserly 14.29%.
In his victory speech Brigadier General Abdullahi who is the current Deputy Director Sports, Defence Headquarters Abuja pledged to take military sports to enviable standards in the continent and across the globe and urged members of the Organization to support him to lift the standard of the continent’s military sports body.
OSMA is the body that represents Africa on the International Military Sports Council, aimed at fostering friendship through Sports while promoting physical fitness among the Armed Forces of member States
