Minna has been rocked by protests as citizens in the Niger State capital took to the streets on Monday morning to protest the high cost of living in the state.
The demonstrating crowd comprising men, women and young people blocked major roads in the metropolis as they sang protest songs, saying they were concerned about the increase in the prices of food items, cost of living generally and the inadequate response of government to address the biting hardship.
Reports say Police officers and other security agents were on ground but did not interfere with the activities of the demonstrators.
The protest of the crowd however drew the attention of the Niger State Deputy Governor, Yakubu Garba who pleaded with them for calm and to await the ameliorating measures being put in place by government to address the hardship of the people.
He assured them that the government was working towards checkmating the suffering of the people as a result of the the petrol subsidy removal.
