New Edo Speaker, Marcus Onobiu
New Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Marcus Onobu, has accused his predecessor, Frank Okiye, of graft.
Onobu who hails from Esan West constituency accused Okiye of lack of transparency and highhanded during the administration of his tenure and asked him to refund an unstated sum of money and other property in his possession. He clamped a three months suspension on Okiye, during which an investigation into his alleged graft would be investigated by a yet to be constituted Committee of the House.
The removal of Okiye, who represents Esan North-East Constituency 2, followed a motion by the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Henry Okhurobo and nine out of the 10 members of the House signed Okiye removal on Monday.
This followed a motion by the member representing Igueben Constituency, Ephraim Aluebhosele and seconded by the member representing Akoko-Edo II Constituency, Emmanuel Agbaje.
The Deputy Speaker, Roland Asoro, who presided over the plenary after Okiye’s impeachment, put the motion to a voice vote.
