The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has announced a N5 million reward for credible information that will lead to the recapture of seven inmates who escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Ilesa, Osun State.
The jailbreak occurred around 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday after a heavy downpour breached the facility’s perimeter fence, creating an opportunity for the inmates to flee.
NCoS spokesperson, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC) Umar Abubakar, said on Wednesday that the Service called for public cooperation to apprehend the escapees.
“In order to encourage public participation, the Nigerian Correctional Service wishes to inform the general public that a cash reward of N5 million is being offered to anyone who provides useful information that leads to the recapture of the fleeing inmates from the Medium Custodial Centre, Ilesa, Osun State,” he said.
Abubakar urged members of the public to report any information on the whereabouts of the escapees to the nearest security agency, assuring that all information will be treated with strict confidentiality.
“All information will be treated with utmost confidentiality and anonymity,” he added.
