The Nigerian Navy Ship Luguard has embarked on Medical Rhapsody across the three senatorial districts of Kogi state to enable people in both the urban and rural communities access healthcare services with ease.
The Commander Nigerian Navy Ship Luguard, Commodore Adeshola Ojo, while flagging off the Free Medical Outreach at LGEA Standard College, Iresuha-Inoziomi in Okene Local Government, Kogi Central Senatorial District, on Wednesday, said that the objective of the Outreach is to demonstrate the Nigerian Navy’s unwavering commitment to the well-being of its host communities.
Commodore Ojo also said that the gesture is in line with the Strategic directive of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas in safeguarding the nation as well as contributing positively to the socio-medical well-being of host communities
“The Rhapsody embodies spirit of service and empathy, where we aim to provide essential healthcare support and awareness as well as foster a spirit of being your brother’s keeper. It serves as an avenue to healthcare awareness to the teenagers and basic medical services to the elderly. We intend to offer general medical consultations, preventive health screenings, and health education on common diseases among others” he disclosed.
Commodore Adeshola Ojo charged medical personnel on the outreach to exhibit high level of professionalism that medical profession demands by ensuring that every patient is treated with the utmost care and respect.
He also urged students of the College and host community members to take full advantage of the services provided.
He further commended Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for providing conducive environment for the success of the free medical treatment.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo who spoke through the Kogi state Security Adviser, Commander Jerry Omadara Rtd during the free medical outreach, promised of continued support for the sustainance of the programme in the state.
He commended Navy for putting in place the laudable health programme which he said has provided opportunity for the needy for medical checks and treatment with less burden.
The Governor disclosed that his administration has declared total war against bandits activities in all parts of the state saying that government is not ready to negotiate or pay ransom to the bandits.
In his address, the state commissioner of Health Dr Abdullazeez Adams reiterated the state government’s commitment to ensuring the comfort of medical personnel serving in both the urban and rural areas.
The commissioner represented by Dr. Kassim Onifade lauded Navy for the humanitarian service that will go a long way in complementing government’s efforts to boost healthcare in the state.
High point of the event was the distribution of health talk and distribution of Sanitary Pads, treated mosquito nets and other medical accessories to both the students of the College and members of the host community.
