Alhaji Adeiza Momoh-Jimoh has been re-elected as chairman of Kogi State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and inaugurated with a charge on journalists to be committed to professionalism and leave above board.
Our Correspondent reports that Momoh-Jimoh was inaugurated with six other members of the State Working Committee (SWC) returned un-opposed at the 2020 Triennial Delegates Conference/Inauguration in NUJ Press Center, Lokoja on Thursday.
Momoh-Jimoh, first elected chairman of the Council in 2017 along with his Exco members and returned un-opposed with his team for another term of three years, expressed gratitude to God and the congress.
The chairman urged, “We should rededicate ourselves to our God-given profession by trying to be as professional as possible in the stories we disseminate. Professionalism is at the core of our job as Journalists.
“If we do our job professionally without bias, the reward of such ethical conduct will be reaped some other day. Let me therefore challenge my colleagues to leave above board all times”, he said.
Momoh-Jimoh hinted that the journey in the last three years had been rough but the council was able to weather the storm through due diligence and commitment with divine grace.
“Let me at this juncture appreciate you all for showing great understanding while we went through troubling times”, he said.
Speaking at the occasion, Chief Wilson Bako, Vice President, Zone D, of the NUJ, charged the Executive Council members in their renewed mandate, to prioritise professionalism and the welfare of working journalists in the state.
Bako urged them to keep the flag flying by upholding the ethics of the profession and in working according to the dictates of the constitution of the union.
He pointed out that government at all levels and journalists should walk hand-in-hand and urged Kogi State Government to partner journalists and the media generally in the quest to advance and develop the state.
The Vice President, Zone D, hinted that Governor Yahaya Bello and the NUJ Council chairman (Momoh-Jimoh) had one thing in common – “performance enhanced re-election”, and should therefore put whatever differences, if any, that existed, behind them and join hands to develop the state.
Also speaking, Mr Gbenga Bamidele, Assistant National Secretary of NUJ, commended the peaceful conduct of the Council election and culminating transition without rancour and urged the new executive to continue to tow the path of peace and transparency.
Mr Joe Usman Esq, while administering the Oath of Office on the returned executive council members, urged them to, at all times, ensure strict adherence to the oath they took to uphold the tenets and constitution of the NUJ.
Members of the new Executive Council include, Adeiza Momoh-Jimoh, chairman; Abubakar Suleiman, Vice Chairman; Seidu Ademu, Secretary; Samuel Atuluku, Financial Secretary; Bayo Aka, Treasurer; Samson Abdul-Aji, Assistant Secretary and Noah Peters, Auditor.
