The North Central Media Support Group for President Muhammad Buhari, has appeal to stakeholders and political leaders in the zone to exercise restraints over the “unfortunate killings in Benue State and environs and begin to work for his re-election.”
In a statement signed by Chairman of the group, Ibrahim Dasuki Salihu Nakande and made available to our reporter in Jos, the group said it is disturbed by the way the incident has assumed political dimension which it considers would further create confusion and divide the people along ethnic lines.
It therefore urged restraint in the use of statements that it considers provocative, in order to assist in reducing the already built up tension in the state and environs.
He said, “The group deems it fit to give respect to the families of those who lost their lives, and of course the country at large.
“We appeal for restraints on the use of various narratives by groups or individuals and to all our media agencies, especially those in the social media. We commiserate and condole with the people and government of Benue State and also wish to recognise the efforts of the Nasarawa Governor, Tanko Almakura, his Benue and Plateau State counterparts, Samuel Ortom, and, Simon Lalong, in their continuous efforts towards the restoration of peace in the North Central Zone.
“We further urge them not to be distracted or deterred, from carrying out such good efforts in ensuring that the desired lasting peace is attained.
“We call on all to continue to give the Buhari led administration the desired support to bring more dividends of democracy to the zone.”
