Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde has demanded the resignation of the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Iyorchai Ayu for there to be unity and end to the lingering personal and governance issues in the opposition party.
Governor Makinde made the demand on Wednesday at the south-west stakeholders meeting in Ibadan, Oyo state.
According to Makinde, who is one of the 4-governor gang of the Governor Nyesom Wike, making this demand on the party, said; “Our party wants to rescue Nigeria and our candidate is a unifier. He wants to restructure Nigeria,” he said.
“Eight years of the All Progressives Congress have left us sharply divided. The issue is we must practice what we preach. If we want to unify Nigeria, we must unify the PDP first.
“If we want to restructure Nigeria, we must have the willingness to bring inclusivity to the PDP. Do we have the capacity? The answer is resounding yes.
“The message from the south-west PDP is that the south-west is asking that the national working committee (NWC) of the PDP should be restructured.
“We are asking the national chairman to step down so that the south will be fully included. That is the message.”
The other two aggrieved governors of the party are Samuel Ortom of Benue State and his Abia counterparty, Okezie Ikpeazu. Ayu who is currently holidaying abroad, had said he would not step down except through a democratic process that brough him and his National Working Committee, NCW, members into office.
