The Makinde-backed faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has named Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN) as Chairman of a 13-member Caretaker National Working Committee (NWC), following the ratification of his appointment at the party’s 103rd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja.
The decision was taken at the NEC session aligned with Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Monday, where the interim leadership structure was formally approved to steer the party’s affairs.
Turaki’s emergence followed a motion moved by the Edo State PDP Chairman, Tony Aziegbemi, and seconded by the party’s ex officio member, Clement Fagboyede.
The NEC also ratified the full composition of the caretaker committee, mandating it to provide transitional leadership, stabilise internal party structures, and reposition the PDP for future political engagements.
Members of the committee include Taofeek Arapaja, who will serve as National Secretary, alongside Daniel Ambrose, Hamza Abuya, Ihediwa, Isah Abubakar, Theophilus Dakashan, Ini Ememobong, Aribisala Adewale Idowu, Baru Shaffi, and Okechukwu Obiechina.
The Makinde-aligned bloc had been set after the Supreme Court ruling invalidated the November 2025 Ibadan National Convention to unveil Turaki as head of the caretaker committee, a move that has now been formalised with the NEC’s endorsement.
Party stakeholders expressed optimism that the newly constituted interim NWC would foster unity among members, reconcile aggrieved stakeholders, and strengthen internal democracy, positioning the PDP as a more cohesive and competitive force in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
