A Senior Magistrate Court sitting adjacent High Court10 in Plateau State High court premises on Tuesday walked out a journalist from covering proceedings of her court.
Magistrate Judge, Deborah Nyam, who insisted on walking the reporter out after she asked and got him identify himself as a journalist with Aljazeera and Universal Reporter, said she was not confident having him in the court room as she suspected he may be hiding a camera, despite his answer to the contrary
She said; “We are not confident having you inside this court, you can go outside of my proceedings because we don’t know if you have intention or someone sponsored your coming .
According to the reporter, Busari, “The judge maintained whether I was invited to cover a special proceedings for someone and I said no my Lord, I have been a judiciary reporter for years and I’m here for the coverage of your court’s proceedings. She still insisted that I leave even after I had identified myself and the medium I work for.”
“I know the rules. Journalists are allowed to cover all proceedings in court except that they are not allowed to use camera during an ongoing court proceedings.”
