Wijnadum scores the winning goal in the 70th min
Liverpool’s 72 per cent possession was all statistics and nothing more to show for it as Sheffield United with its 28 per cent ball possession had more shots at goal at 2 than the league leaders with none far into the game. The ding-dong affair continued until Georgino Wijnaldum scored the winning goal in the 70th min. Then the visitors swung into action, increasing the shot at goal tally to 4 against 2 for the home side. But the home side were no pushover as the corners tally showed with 6 for Sheff. United to 5 for Liverpool.
Mark Walters, former Liverpool winger put it graphically, at the 68th minute of the game: “Nobody looks like scoring at the minute, you are not quite sure if anyone will either. Sheffield United have done their homework on how to stop Liverpool and it is working at the minute.” Then when the goal came two minutes later on, he added, nonplussed. “The goalkeeper has to take all the blame for that. It should have been so routine the goalkeeper – it is shocking for Sheffield United but great for Liverpool. It just proves that if you hit the target anything can happen.” End of story is that the Reds remain unbeaten and still maintain a clean season, just yet.
