The effort of the Federal Government to change the way it conducts business in the country has drawn the praise of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry LCCI.
In a statement signed by its president, Mrs Nike Akande, the LCCI stated that the recently signed Executive Orders by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo towards ordering government business and operations in the country, “will impact the ease of doing business, fast track budgetary administration as well as promote made in Nigeria products’’.
Taking note of the main focus of the Orders, which include promotion of transparency and efficiency in the business environment, support of local contents in the procurement by the Federal Government and the efficient operation and implementation of the federal budget, she applauded the government for consulting widely before signing the orders and called on the state governments to follow suit while pledging the support of the LCCI to ensure compliance from the private sector.
She said in the statement: “We believe that the executive orders will impact the ease of doing business, fast-track budgetary administration as well as promote made in Nigeria products. Thus, we urge the government to ensure that all the parties affected by the orders strictly adhere to stipulated timelines.
“We seek continued consultations and engagement with the business community and the bureaucracy in building understanding and buy-in of all stakeholders.
“On our part, we will track the compliance with these orders by relevant MDAs, follow up compliance and report outcomes/feedback from private sector players on an ongoing basis.
“We call on the state governments to replicate these reforms as applicable in their respective state. This is required to complement the efforts of the Federal Government on Ease of Doing Business in Nigeria.”
