Lawyers In Anambra Protest Against Insecurity, Killing of Colleague

Over 350 lawyers in Anambra State on Monday took to the streets in the state capital, Awka to protest rising cases of insecurity and the kidnap and killing of one of their members last week in the state
The marched on the Government House and told Governor Wille Obiano that “enough is  enough,” with the kidnapping and killing of Mr. Frank Onwuachi  by unknown gunmen.
  Chairman of  Onitsha branch of the Nigeria Bar  Association, Mr Onyechi Ononye,  said lawyers in the state could  no longer go to court due to high rate of security challenges in the state .
He said,”the state government must  rejig the security architecture  in the state to protect the  lives of innocent citizens in the streets .
” We are here to express our displeasure  over the worsening security situation in the state .
 Our member was kidnapped and killed the other day .
“Some security formations  were attacked and operatives were killed while their weapons were carted away.
” We cannot travel to court because of the challenging  security situation ,it is getting worse every day .
“We are here to tell the governor about the security situation in the state ,all the Chairmen  and Secretaries of the eight branches in Ananmbra are here ” he said .
Secretary to the State Government, Prof Solo Chukwulobelu, who received the protesters on behalf of  Obiano, said that it was sad that the rate of killings in the state had become alarming .
According to him,”Anambra state has the record of being the safest state in the country and we should rise up the challenges . .
“Security is every one’s business ,you in the NBA ,the various communities in the state ,let us join hands together and fight it.
” Security is not just the government business alone ,every body must do something to ensuring good security  network in the state is improved ” he said .
He  reminded them  that a joint security task force has moved into action to ensure that such deadly acts do not occur again

It would be recalled that some days ago, one of the lawyers, was kidnapped at Omor in Ayamelum local government area of the and few days later, his lifeless body was found
And within the past one week, about six police men were killed, their vehicles burnt and weapons taken, including the killing of three Naval men at Awkuzu, Oyi local government area
As a result, Anambra State governor, Chief Willie Obiano, on Sunday, read riot act to the Joint Security Task Force JTF to end the killings in the State
