Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State
A member representing Irigwe /Rukuba Constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Simon Kudu has called on government and security personnels to take action and stop the killings and violence going on in the state
He made this call Friday while speaking with our correspondent on the recent attacks within Rafiki, Dutsen Kura, Dundu and other parts on Bassa local government area which have left many person dead, many injured and properties destroyed. Decrying some of the attacks which place “close to check points mounted by the security men means that the government should make efforts towards checking the perceived complacency of the security apparatus in handling security affairs.”
The law maker said, “if the government and its security cannot live up to it’s responsibility to protect live and properties of the citizens, let them declare that citizens should protect themselves.
“It beats my imagination that these attacks have continued unabated. Last time when the President was in Jos, the attackers invaded Bokkos local government area and since he left there has been series of killings in my constituency. So to me I can say that this people has an agenda to wipe us out, and I think our leaders should stop pretending and should empower our youth to defends themselves”.
He urged governors in the middle -belt, particularly Governor Lalong of Plateau to key into the Anti Open Grazing Law that has been put in place by other states governors to find a lasting solution to herdsmen/ farmers conflict.
He said the house has been yearning for an executive bill to that effect to be presented to the house by the governor, but to no avail. ” when we saw that the governor was not willing to step forward with an executive bill seeking to prohibits open grazing, we decided to say let us sponsor it as a private bill, but our APC members did not support it, and you know they are the majority in the house so there is nothing we could do”.
