The lawmaker representing Irepo/Olorunsogo state constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly,Hon. Oseni Abdulganiya, has declared his support for the bill in the National Assembly tagged #NotTooYoungToRun#.
In a chat with Thisage at the Assembly Complex, Secretariat, Ibadan the state capital, Hon. Oseni said such a bill would give Nigerian youths a chance to take part in the leadership of the country.
The lawmaker who is the House Committee Chairman on Business and Cooperatives said Nigerian founding fathers such Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Dr. Namidi Azikwe, Alhaji Tafawa Balawa, then General Olusegun Obasanjo and others attained leadership at a younger age.
He urged youths to take active parts in politics and leadership, stating that it was his concern for the youths that had made him to concentrate on assisting them and women in his constituency projects
He said: “When we came on board we faced a lot of challenges. We did a lot for our youths in education. I believe in education and capacity building. We organized free extra-moral lessons in December. We will pay the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination fees.
By this year ending, we will do the same thing”.
He disclosed that six motorcycles were given to men while some, women got #20,000 each so that they would use it to do business.
He said rather giving them money, in the next empowerment which would take place in few days, he would give out tools of trade such as grinding machines would be given to them and agricultural inputs such as insecticides, chemicals and pumping machines
According to the lawmaker 120 farmers and 250 women would benefit from the scheme, adding that 200 students would get #5,000 each and
15 motorcycles for the youths.
