Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, has pledged to work harmoniously with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other arms of government to ensure the seamless delivery of the dividends of democracy to Lagosians.
Mojisola, the member representing Apapa 1 Constituency, was elected Speaker on Monday, following the impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa. The lawmakers also dissolved all principal positions and standing committees in the assembly.
Speaking during her inaugural plenary session on Friday, the new Speaker made a profound commitment to collaborative governance with the state government.
Addressing members of the Assembly, guests, staff, and Lagosians, she expressed her gratitude for the trust placed in her and outlined her vision for a unified and effective government.
“We are the guardians of the collective trust of Lagosians. Our administration will focus on working together for a better Lagos, ensuring every resident—irrespective of gender, education, religion, or ethnicity—is proud to say, ‘I am a Lagosian’.
“Our legislative actions must align with the executive’s vision for a better Lagos. By fostering a spirit of cooperation and mutual respect, we can leave the stage far better than we met it”, she declared,
The Speaker outlined key priorities, including strengthening legislative independence, promoting transparency and accountability in governance, and creating an inclusive democracy where every citizen feels valued and empowered.
“Our oneness is our strength. As leaders, we must lead by example, demonstrating integrity and fairness in all our dealings. We will strive to amplify the voices of our constituents, address their concerns, and protect their welfare. Together, let us work towards a brighter future for Lagos State—a future built on justice, equality, and opportunity for all. This, we will achieve together”, she added.
Meanwhile, the Speaker has announced new principal officers following the dissolution of the former committee.
The new appointments are Hon. Temitope Adedeji, representing Ifako Ijaye 1 Constituency as Majority Leader; Hon. Richard Kasumu, representing Ikeja 2 Constituency, Deputy Majority Leader; Hon. David Setonji, representing Badagry 2 Constituency, Chief Whip and Hon. Semiu Okanlawon, representing Kosofe Constituency 1, Deputy Chief Whip.
