The Chairman, Joint Unions of Plateau State owned Tertiary Institutions, JUPTI, Comrade Pail Dakogol. has commended Governor Simon Bako Lalong for his concern to improving the educational fortunes of the state.
The chairman who made this commendation during the presentations of excellence awards to deserving personalities in education, said though the governor has done well in improving labour/ government relations, there is need for the government to step up efforts towards addressing other challenges facing JUPTI in the state.
He said: ” It will interest you to know that within the past two years of this administration, some progress have been made towards addressing various myriad of problems confronting tertiary education in the state including, prolong strike, backlog of salaries and pension allowances running to eight months.
“Today, we have relatively friendly labour/government relationship and funds for accreditation and reacreditation of academic programmes have been released. The Governor has also approved and implementation the CONTISS 15 migration”.
He however appeals to the state government to correct the table that was distorted by the previous regime as contained in the 2016 court agreement with government.
“We plead for the re constitution of governing boards which is long overdue, as well as the recruitment of staff to augment the man power deficit in the institutions”.
Also speaking, Rector of the Plateau state polytechnic, Dauda Gyemang commended the state government for the stainable growth and advancement of education and manpower
development in the state.
He called on union leaders to toe the path of dialogue with government in any demand, saying it is the best way of resolving issues.
Responding to questions from newsmen, Chairman planning committee who is also ASUP Chairman, Gizo Jankwat, said JUPTI awards is aimed at motivating beneficiaries to be more committed to their areas of assignments.
