The Kogi state Director-General of Information and Grassroots Sensitization, Abdulkareem Abudulmalik has stressed the need for effective use of the Media and Culture to address the ills in Nigeria.
The Director-General gave the challenge while declaring open the RATTAWU Day celebration in Lokoja, which was organized by the Kogi state Council of Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union of Nigeria.
Abdulmalik noted that the Media and Culture in any society forms the surest veritable tool to be used in exposing corrupt elements and correcting the ills and decays that had continued to ravaged many nations world wide.
He also counselled practitioners of Media and Culture industries to strive at all times in abiding by the code of conduct for their chosen profession.
The DG however, gave the assurance that the present administration in Kogi state would not relent in providing the enabling political will for those in Media and Culture industries to thrive in the state.
In her welcome address, the Chairperson of Kogi Council of RATTAWU, Habitat Umar Ibrahim called for the restoration of the Weigh-in allowance of her members, which was erroneously removed by SALLY-TIBOT, the Consultant that handled the workers screening exercise in 2011.
She explained that the Weigh-in allowance is a professional hazard pay enjoyed by the members of the union throughout the federation.
The labour leader also used the forum to appeal to the Kogi state government to reinstate staff of Radio Kogi who were genuinely employed by the immediate past administration in 2015 but have been screened out during the current civil service reform embarked upon by the present government.
She promised to mobilize her members with the state owned Media and Cultural outfits to live up to expectations in the discharge of their duties to boost productivity and efficient service delivery.
Ibrahim praised the National leadership of the Union for giving equal opportunities for all State Chapters across the country and for a job well done since assumption of office.
