Deputy Speaker of Kogi state House of Assembly, Hon. Ahmed Mohammed has kicked against move by some sections of Nigeria to divide the country.
He called on those championing the division of Nigeria to desist from it insisting that it would be disastrous if the country breaks up now at this trying period.
Mohammed disclosed this Wednesday while speaking with Our Correspondent in Lokoja.
The Ankpa (I) lawmaker said the unity of the country should remain sacrosanct in the mind of every Nigerians.
Speaking further on the unity of the nation and its restructuring, the lawmaker maintained that there was need for the six geo-political zones in the country to come together in agreement with the interest of the nation paramount.
According to him, this move must be devoid of personal interest as restructuring remain key to the future of the country.
“Whenever I hear some Nigerians speaking about break up, I usually laugh. This is not the time we should be saying something of such but rather we should come together and move this nation forward.
“There will be problem if this country tears apart. No doubt, the Nation is facing some challenges now, I am very optimistic that we will overcome. Rome wasn’t built in a day, so why are we in a hurry. Let us all come together to achieve the Nigeria of our dream” he added.
The Kogi lawmaker stated that the Nation still remains work in progress as insecurity has hindered its growth and development in recent times.
He explained that insecurity resulting from insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and farmers herders clashes had been a setback for the nation.
He said although as the nation marked its independence improvements could be seen in the areas of rail transportation and diversification of the nations economy.
He also said that the recent increase in the price of petrol and electricity tariff was causing untold hardship on the people hence the urgent need for government to diversify the economy and look for other sources of revenue.
