The Executive Chairman of Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (KGIRS), Alhaji Sule Salihu Enehe has seeked for elaborate collaboration with critical stakeholders in tax administration to boost revenue generation in the state.
Enehe made the call during his organisation’s interactive session with critical stakeholders in Kogi for the year 2024 edition, held in Lokoja on Tuesday.
He said that the programme with the Theme: “Continuous Engagement for Effective Tax Administration” was put in place to interact with relevant stakeholders on the impact of his agency’s services such as feedback on its progress and the way Forward for improvement.
“We are here to interact with a view to getting feedback from you as critical stakeholders in tax administration. We need to collaborate to make a huge success. What we expect from you is to tell us what we are doing wrongly and how we shall improve upon them for positive results” Enehe explained
He noted that payment of tax is a constitutional matter and mandatory in nature hence the need for citizens to endeavour to live up to expectation in this obligation.
“Essentially citizens pay tax for development and provision of basic infrastructure such as roads, potable water, housing and electricity amongst others to enhance their standard of living” he further explained.
The chairman disclosed that in the last eight years, Kogi State Internal Revenue Service has been able to make its mark in revenue generation from the previous N6.5billion to N23.5billion annually at the moment.
He also hinted that in the last eight years, his organisation has moved from analogue system of operation to digital and the improvement has yielded positive results its service delivery
“We have been able to tackle linkages in revenue generation system such as illegal tax collectors on our highways amongst others”
