The Department of State Services, DSS, has reportedly approved the list of media organisations and their reporters that would cover the trial of the detained leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu who returns to federal high court, Abuja, on Monday.
The list comprises four newspapers, namely, The Nation, Daily Independent, Herald, and Thisday, four broadcast stations including NTA, Channels, AIT and TVC, while an online publication, Premium Times and the News Agency of Nigeria each got one slot.
Justice Binta Nyako had adjourned Kanu’s trial to July 26 shortly after he was arraigned on Tuesday, June 29, following his arrest in Kenya and ordered that he be remanded in the custody of the Department of State Service (DSS), pending his trial.
Justice Nyako gave the order after counsel to the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Shuaibu Labaran, told the court that the defendant (Kanu), who allegedly jumped bail had been arrested and produced in court.
The DSS reportedly gave security and space constraints in obedience to COVID-19 protocols as reasons for the shortlist. The accreditation letter, above, was signed by Catherine Oby Christopher, Chief Information Officer of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, Abuja.
