Updated: Kano Dethrones Emir Muhammad Sanusi 11, Enthrones Aminu Bayeo As New Emir

The Kano State government has dethroned the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi 11.

Secretary to the State Government, SSG, announced the dethronement on Monday at a Council meeting attained by government officials including the Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, his Deputy, according to a statement signed by Abba Anwar, Chief Press Secretary to the governor.

He said Sanusi’s removal was done after due consultations with relevant stakeholders in “compliance with Part 3, Section 13 of the Kano State Emirate Law 2019.

He said: “The Kano state Executive Council under the Chairmanship of His Excellency, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduju has unanimously approved the immediate removal/ dethronement of the Emir of Kano Emirate Muhammad Sanusi 11.

Alluding to the reasons for his removal, the government said, “It is on record and in so many instances MalamMuhammad Sanusi 11 has been found breaching Part 3 Section 13 (a-e) of the Kano State Emirate Law 2019 and which if left unchecked will destroy the good and established image of the Kano Emirate.”

He was banished to Nasarawa State for the rest of his life

Sanusi was recently under probe by the House of Assembly over alleged violations of ‘customary and traditional values of the people, a follow-up to an earlier sanctions for other alleged financial misappropriation, before and after the 2019 elections. A former Head of State, Gen Abdulsalami Abukbakar committee set up by eminent Nigerians was to intervene in the matter that was causing tension in Kano State following the breaking up of the emirate into five by the government. But the committee made no head way as the governor reported travelled for lesser Hadj, leaving no room for their intervention.
