The Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) has issued a 15-day strike ultimatum to the Federal Government to address their longstanding demands.
In a joint statement signed by the union’s National Chairman and Secretary, JOHESU expressed frustration over the government’s failure to meet their demands since June 2021, despite the suspension of their strike following President Bola Tinubu’s pledge to intervene.
It, therefore, warned that any further failure to resolve these issues would result in the resumption of industrial action, potentially disrupting healthcare services nationwide.
JOHESU’s demands include the non-payment of the COVID-19 hazard allowance to healthcare workers, tax exemption on healthcare workers’ allowances and the immediate halt to plans for establishing an agency to oversee national health facilities.
The association warned that unless significant progress is made within the next 15 days, another round of industrial action is imminent. It urged the government to act swiftly to prevent further disruptions in the nation’s healthcare sector.
