The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has activated sweeping security measures across the state as part of a renewed push to curb violent crime and strengthen public safety.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Command, led by Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, said the action follows directives from the Nigeria Police Force headquarters to intensify crime prevention strategies nationwide.
According to the statement endorsed by Police Public Relations, Officer Timfon John, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police. security operations have been scaled up through intelligence-led policing, with increased patrols and strategic deployment of personnel across all local government areas.
High-risk zones such as farmlands, forests, waterways, and major access routes are now under constant surveillance, supported by coordinated day-and-night patrols.
The Command also disclosed that special stop-and-search operations have been introduced at critical points to intercept criminal elements, while tactical units have been repositioned to ensure rapid response to emergencies and improved visibility across the state.
In a bid to strengthen security coordination, the police said collaboration has been expanded with key agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Department of State Services, Defence Intelligence Agency, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, among others.
Residents were urged to remain vigilant and actively support security efforts by reporting suspicious activities. Community leaders, traditional rulers, religious organisations, and youth groups were specifically called upon to provide credible and timely information to aid ongoing operations.
To enhance emergency response, the Command released dedicated contact lines for public use: 08039213071, 08028916010, 08020913810, 09040000065, and 09169839215. Authorities assured that all reports would be handled with urgency and strict confidentiality.
The Commissioner of Police warned criminal elements to desist from unlawful activities, stressing that the Command would take decisive action against anyone found threatening the peace of the state.
The police also cautioned residents against the spread of misinformation, advising the public to rely only on verified updates from authorised security agencies.
Reaffirming its commitment, the Command said it remains resolute in its mandate to protect lives and property, vowing to sustain the intensified operations to ensure a safe and secure environment across Akwa Ibom State.
