Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia state has issued a marching order to contractors handling six major road projects in the state datelines to complete the jobs and hand them over to the government.
The Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the governor, Barrister Onyebuchi Ememanka stated this in an interview in his office at Government House, Umuahia, the state capital, expressing confidence that the datelines will be mate.
He said: “It may interest you to know that Ikpeazu has launched an “Operation zero pothole scheme on roads in Aba and Umuahia, the state capital, to ensure our people commute smoothly.”
The roads and their datelines are Osisioma-Umuene; November 30, Afor Ibeji emergency repairs; October 30, Osusu ; November 30, Abiriba-Nkporo; November 30, and 1st Phase Aba (Umuahia); November 30.
He said in addition, the state Ministry of Works has also been directed to execute palliative maintenance work on Ururuka Road within the next 10 days to ensure free flow of traffic on all segments of it.
“In the same vein, he has directed the contractor handling the Okpu Umuobo-Mgboko Road to resume work immediately. Same directive has been handed to the contractor handling the Osisioma Flyover, near Aba,” he added.
Reacting to the recent press conference by the 2015 and 2019 All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) governorship candidate in the state, Dr. Alex Otti, he said the administration would not want to join issues with him.
“Obviously, he is yet to recover from his serial defeats in the successive elections and the persistent rejection of his lies by the people of the state. We believe it is important to set certain records straight for the benefit of public records,” he said.
Otti was quoted to have at the press conference in Lagos, among other things, which he said have gone wrong under the administration maintained that “Ikpeazu has done nothing and Aba is a ghost town.”
