The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has identified Digital Policing as the best option to tackle rising insecurity in Nigeria.
The IG made the assertion while speaking during the inauguration of the newly built Nigeria Police Divisional Headquarters, Ekinrin-Adde, in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi state on Wednesday.
The IGP who was represented by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (DIG), Abubakar Zuberu, said that the federal government is very passionate about digital policing and would not relent in promoting intelligence led policing.
He described the new Divisional Police Headquarters which was constructed under the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, Special Intervention Project as timely saying that it will enhance police efficiency in its operations.
Egbetokun commended the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund in Kogi state, Alhaji Mohammed Seidu for living up to expectations in the police trust fund intervention
The IGP called for inclusive policing where all hands must be on deck to checkmate crimes across the country.
He appealed to the people of the area to ensure that the donated new police station is put into good use.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi state while commissioning the project, maintained that security of the people is critical assuring that it will continue to receive topmost priority of his administration.
The governor noted that the place of deploying technology in combatting crimes cannot be over emphasized stressing that citizens must complement government’s efforts in crime prevention and control.
He lauded Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies for keeping Kogi safe and promised logistics support to enable them function effectively.
“Your onslaught against criminals in Kogi state is yielding good results” the Governor noted.
Earlier, the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, Special Intervention Project, Alhaji Mohammed Seidu had appreciated President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s commitment to reposition Nigeria Police Force through Community Based and Technology Driven Policing.
He gave the assurance that the Divisional Police Headquarters, equipped with modern communication gadgets and security architecture would strengthen police presence in the area.
He commended the contractor for executing the project according to the contract specifications.
In his welcome address, the Chairman of Ijumu Local Government Area, Ibrahim Haruna thanked the Nigeria Police Trust Fund for the gesture put in place and assured of necessary cooperation with the police in course of its operations.
