At least no fewer than 70 homes in Jong community of Barkin Ladi Local Government Council in Plateau State have been filled with returnees from Internally Displaced Persons, IDP, camp since the 2009 crises between the natives and Fulani settlers.
Senator Istifanus Gyang in partnership with General Mohammed Abdulsalami of sector 21 Barkin Ladi felicitated the return of the IDPs.
The Chairman of Christian Youth in Politics Sam Chris commended the senator and the army general for what he called their generosity and tenacity in making sure the displaced persons returned to their homes after more than a decade in living in inhuman conditions at the camp. Senator Gyang built the 70 houses in the locality for the returnees.
He said Senator I.D Gyang is a leader worthy of emulation by many Nigerian politicians for his commitment and generosity by example in building 70 housing estate for the returnees.
According to him, Gyang has also connected the communities in Bassa Local Government with the national grid apart from the recent rehabilitation exercise.
He added that Senator Gyang’s gesture was a true reflection of love as taught in the holy book, adding that the empowerment of women and youths in Plateau North Senatorial District is consider as one of the meaningful ways of reducing poverty and providing job opportunity to all the citizens there.
Sam Chris urged Nigerian politicians to imitate Gyang by eschewing politics of bitterness and promoting harmony and peaceful co-existence in communities across the country.
Chris also applauded security agencies for working very hard to restore peace in warring communities of Barkin Ladi and ensuring that they continue to leave in peace with one another.
He stressed that the General Abubakar, son of former Head of State, Abubakar Abdulsalami has been honoured for bringing peace, love and promoting mutual respect amongst the people of Barki Ladi and its environs.
