Vice Admiral (Rtd) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas has approved the appointments of Administrators for the 23 Local Government Areas of Rivers State.
A statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibibia Worika, said the administrator also approved the reconstitution of some earlier suspended Boards of Agencies, Commissions, and Parastatals.
Worika said all the appointments take effect from Monday, the 7th of April 2025.
The appointment of administrators for the 23 LGAs came less than 24 hours after a Port Harcourt Federal High Court ordered Ibas to appear before it on the 14th of April to give reasons why an order seeking to restrain him from appointing council administrators should not be granted.
Justice Adamu Turaki Muhammed issued the order in a suit filed by PILEX Centre for Civic Education Initiative, led by Courage Nsirimovu. Filed on March 28th, the Centre is praying the court to stop Ibas or his agents from appointing administrators for Rivers LGAs.
The court, however, adjourned until April 14 for a hearing on the motion on notice.
The Supreme Court had, on 28th February, invalidated the October 5 local government election in Rivers State.
President Bola Tinubu appointed Ibas as Rivers Administrator on March 18, following the declaration of a state of emergency.
