At least eight persons have been confirmed killed, while four others remain missing, following a deadly attack by suspected Boko Haram terrorists on Zah, Mubang Yadul and Kijing villages in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
Chairman of Hong LGA, Mr Inuwa Usman Wa’aganda, who confirmed the incident on Tuesday, described the assault as a coordinated night attack that left the affected communities in grief and devastation.
Wa’aganda said the terrorists struck on Monday night, killing residents and setting several houses and shops ablaze, with large quantities of foodstuffs and other valuables destroyed in the process.
According to him, the attackers fled into surrounding bushes before the arrival of security operatives who were later deployed to the area to restore calm.
“It is true that Boko Haram attacked Mubang, Zah and Kijing villages of Hong. So far, eight corpses have been recovered from the three communities, while four persons are still missing”, the council chairman said.
He added that many residents have been displaced by the attack and are currently taking refuge in neighbouring communities, having lost their homes and means of livelihood.
Wa’aganda appealed to the state and federal governments to urgently intervene by providing relief materials and facilitating the resettlement of displaced persons, while also strengthening security presence in the area to forestall further attacks.
As at the time of filing this report, security agencies were yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
