Following the agreement reached between herdsmen and farmers in Egume Community in Dekina local government area of Kogi state for peaceful co-existence, stakeholders in the zone have stressed the need for youths to desist from unlawful acts that could jeopardize the peace pact.
The National President of Egume Ome Descendants Union ( EODU), Alhaji Muhammed Lawal Ibrahim also called on Stakeholders within Egume community to embark on sensitization programme of their Youths against unlawful acts that could trigger crisis in the community.
Alhaji Ibrahim made the call during the security – peace and resolution meeting of Fulani herdsmen and farmers in Egume, organised by the National Executive body of EODU held at Egume in Dekina Local government area, Kogi state.
He pointed out that the objective of the meeting was to avert future occurrence of crisis between Herdsmen and the people of Egume community and to focus on economic development of the land.
The National President attributed major causes of crisis between Fulani Herdsmen and farmers to wanton destruction of farm produce and lack of sequel approach to issues. “And I want to advise youth leaders to caution their members against taking law into their hands.”
In his speech, the Peace Ambassador and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security in Dekina Local government area, Prince Ishaq Okolo said more efforts would be intensified to bring peace between the people of Egume community and the Herdsmen.
Prince Ishaq charged the Ardo (Fulani leaders) and leaders of Egume community to warn their people to stay away from causing any forms of violence warning that anyone caught will face the wrath of the law.
He opined that the formation of joint Task force between Fulani and Farmers would resolve unforeseen crisis and even foster the desired unity among the people adding ” I urge the security agents to redoubled their efforts by working hand in hand to ensure the restoration of peace in the land”.
In his response, the state Chairman, Miyetti Allah, Cattle breeders Association of Nigeria, Alhaji Usman Umar commended the Efforts of the Senior Special Adviser on Security to Dekina local government, Prince Ishaq Okolo and President EODU, Alhaji Lawal Ibrahim for organising peace – resolution meeting and pledged for peaceful co-existence in the area.
