Ikeduru Patriotic Union (IPU), Umuahia branch has launched a N25m fund for the building of its proposed secretariat/meeting hall in the town.
At the occasion, at St Fimbarr’s Catholic Church, Umuahia, Abia state capital, the chairman, Sir Emeka Opara expressed pleasure with the project.
The managing director of E.O.H. Associates Nig Ltd, argued that when completed the project woud be of importance to both the branch and other prospective users.
Opara, who is the grand patron and a former president of the branch assured the members of his personal commitment to the timely completion of the project.
Similarly, Eze Oliver Njoku of Abazu Ikeduru, associated himself with the project, appealing to the members and their friends to contribute meanininfully to its realization.
Represented by his Traditional Prime Ministe, Chief Damian Ojichieme, the Imo state monarch, commended the branch for initiatng the project.
In his remarks, one of the special guest, Chief Princewill Ukaegbu described the project as a welcome development in the town.
Ukegbu, who is a former chairman of Umuahia North Local Government Council, added the need for other communities to emulate the union.
In his address of welcome, the President-General of the branch, High Chief James Nwachukwu solicited the support of the members and their friends for the project.
