Few hours after US President Donald Trump ordered the assassination of a powerful Iranian military leader Qassem Soleimani and other Iraqi commanders at Baghdad’s International airport on Friday, American rap sensation Cardi B unveiled plans to take up Nigerian citizenship.
The iconic singer who visited Nigerian on Pepsi ticket to perform in December, 6 to 8, 2019 and then publicly disclosed her love for the country whose indigenous name she adopted- Chioma, Titilayo, Buluchukwu- is set to take the plunge on her citizenship quest after the US attack created tension among nations in the the Middle East, rattled Western diplomatic, political and policy makers and posed danger to the lives of Americans because of the vow of Iran to retaliate the killing with American citizens and allies as targets.
In her January 3 Tweet, she said:
Her over 55million followers have started reacting with Nigerian government officials sharing her message and photos.
In response to the tweet, one fan wrote: ‘Ok BardiGang guess we’re all moving to Nigeria.’
While another pleaded: ‘take me to nigeria with you’.
Yet another said: ‘take me with you I’ll start filling out my adoption paper work’.
The Grammy Award winner took to Nigeria the way fish takes to water immediately she set foot on Lagos soil likened Lagos to her New York, her American city, “There are so many people and it’s like New York!”.
The rapper, an ex-stripper who was coming to Nigeria for the first time, visited a popular Lagos strip club and sprayed some Naira notes on some of the naked strippers at the joint before she held her sold out performance at the Livespot X Festival which held at the Eko Atlantic City, Lagos.
She performed with Nigeria’s biggest artistes including Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage, Teni, Niniola, and Wande Coal. She is a mother of one.
One of her unforgettable experience, which she shared on her Instagram wall on Dec 6 was eating a favourite Nigerian dish, Jollof rice:
Alright this 7 o’clock in the morning I want to go to the f**king hood. I want to see the real Nigeria. I want to eat the hotel food I want like real Nigerian food, all that fish, all that Nigerian Jollof rice, all that, all that,” she said.
