Govs Can Pay Salaries With Fund From Paris Loan, Says Buhari

The scheduled meeting between President Muhammadu Buhari and governors over the sorry state of the affairs in the nation ended on a good note with the President urging them to make pay workers salaries, pension and gratuities promptly once they get the second tranche of the Paris loan from the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.

He immediately directed the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun and CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele to hit the ground running to ensure the welfare of the workers are addressed.

In a statement issued by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, Buhari expressed concern that families were hard pressed with issues ranging from payment of school fees, feeding and rent and should immediately be assisted with the payment of their salaries and gratuities.

He said: “I will not rest until I address those issues that affect our people. One of these basic things is the issue of salaries. It is most important that workers are able to feed their families, pay rent and school fees, then other things can follow,”

“It is most important that workers are able to feed their families, pay rent and school fees, then other things can follow,” Shehu said, quoting President Buhari.

Buhari, who shook hands with each governor present was said to have expressed gratitude to them for maintaining unity of purpose while he was away during his recent medical vacation in the UK  and pledged to rededicate himself to the service of the people and the fatherland.

“I didn’t want government to move to London. I wanted it to remain here and I am glad it did,” he said.
