Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has revised himself on an earlier decision to re-open churches and mosque following the partial lifting of Covid-19 lockdown.
Announcing the revision of state government’s decision in Makurdi, the state capital on Saturday, Ortom said the order was premature. He said the initial decision was not meant to contradict the directive of the National Center for Disease Control, NCDC or that of the Federal Government, which is the custodian of the NCDC, but that the state was less informed.
He said; “ We have decided to revise the decision in the interest of the land and not endanger the lives of our people. If problem on Covid-19 takes place it is the federal government we would run to for support.”
The governor who stated that the state has so far recorded two cases of covid-19, disclosed that the state government has reached out to the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN and National Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs as well as market associations for understanding.
Edo Poll: Group Warns APC Against Imposition of Candidate
A political group, the South South for Buhari Anti-Corruption Group, SSBA, has alerted that national leadership of the All Progressives Congress of secret moves by some unnamed big wigs of the party to impose a candidate in Edo State for the September governorship poll.
According to the leader of the group, Imafidon Odion, the group would expose the actor who has “perfected plans to favour a certain aspirant against governor Godwin Obaseki.
