Two Pakistani nationals, identified as Roman Gull and Aftab Ahmad, have been arrested for kidnapping in Lagos.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Police Command in Lagos State confirmed the arrest in a statement on Thursday.
The statement reads: “In strict compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, to stamp out kidnapping and violent crimes nationwide, the Lagos State Police Command has successfully arrested two notorious Pakistani nationals specialising in kidnapping for ransom.
“A distress call was received at the Ikeja Division on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, regarding the abduction of a 48-year-old Pakistani national in Ikeja. Anti-crime patrols were swiftly deployed, leading to the victim’s rescue and the arrest of two captors: Roman Gull (19) and Aftab Ahmad (28), both Pakistani nationals. Five accomplices fled the scene.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects lured the victim from Kano to Lagos under the pretext of offering him a chef job. They booked his flight and lodged him in a hotel on 28 February 2025. The following day, seven suspects overpowered him, tied his hands and feet, and demanded a N50 million ransom from his employer, threatening to kill him if unpaid. The employer paid N1 million to buy time before alerting the police.
“Recovered items include the suspects’ grey Toyota Camry saloon car, the victim’s $2,000 cash, three ATM cards, a green card, a driving licence, and an NIN slip. Efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects, who will be arraigned upon the conclusion of the investigation. The victim, now safe, has re-established contact with his family.”
The Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, commended the Ikeja Division and assured residents and visitors of Lagos State of the Command’s unwavering commitment to safety and security.
