The Federal Government has directed the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), to restrict admission into tertiary institutions for the 2024/2025 academic year, to candidates who are 18 years and above.
Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman gave the directive in his welcome address during the 2024 Policy Meeting on Admissions into Tertiary Institutions/NELFUND Half-Hour Briefing on Thursday, in Abuja
Mamman, who was restating his earlier position that candidates below 18 were responsible for crises in the nation’s universities, received open protests from participants at the event.
Insisting that the decision was already a federal government policy, Mamman urged anyone dissatisfied with the decision to go to the National Assembly and ask for an amendment of the law.
“If you want the child to start from four, you can go back to the National Assembly and amend it”, he said, adding that the action was aimed at addressing some of the major problems facing tertiary institutions, especially universities.
