The Federal Government has commenced the first tranche of direct financial payments to beneficiaries under the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Initiative, marking a major milestone in efforts to expand vocational skills and youth empowerment across the country.
Boriowo Folasade, the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, disclosed that over 42,000 young Nigerians have received their monthly stipends of ₦22,500 to support upkeep and transportation as they undergo intensive practical training.
Additionally, more than 600 independent technical and vocational centres nationwide have received instructional support funds to ensure continuity and quality of training.
The Ministry described the rollout as the beginning of a sustained financial commitment that will cover multiple tranches in the coming months, demonstrating the long-term vision of the programme.
The Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, said the swift commencement of payments reflects President Bola Tinubu’s directive to invest aggressively in young Nigerians. He noted that the initiative aligns with the administration’s focus on equipping youth with in demand practical skills that drive job creation, entrepreneurship, and national economic growth.
“President Tinubu believes that equipping our youth with practical skills is the fastest way to stimulate job creation and economic productivity. This is the very essence of the Renewed Hope Agenda—turning potential into productivity”, Alausa stated.
Since its launch in May, the TVET programme has recorded strong momentum, with registered students already engaged in hands-on vocational training. The Ministry emphasised that the timely release of funds is crucial to sustaining the training ecosystem and ensuring students can focus fully on skill acquisition.
