…DSS: It is not correct
By Ayo Kehinde

Few days after the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, raised the alarm over serial violations of its Health Protocols on Covid-19 by VIPS at the airports in the country, the authority on Wednesday, slammed Head of the Department of State Service, DSS, Mr Safiyanu Abba, for deliberately obstructing airport security process and slapping an airport official at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport in Abuja.
FAAN, in a some tweets on its official Twitter handle said the DSS boss slapped the Aviation Security Officer who was performing his duty.
“We note with dismay that Mr Safiyanu Abba, the Head of DSS at NAIA deliberately obstructed airport security process, and slapped an Aviation Security officer who was performing his duty by calling on Mr Safiyanu Abba to desist from doing so.
“This happened on the 17th July at about 15:23 hours. He breached security procedures by obstructing further searching of a visitor who had just walked through the metal detector and activated the alarm.
“The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria strongly condemns this abuse of power and the security process in our airport. This has also been duly escalated.”
Recently, the FAAN had publicly denounced Governor Amhadu Fintiri of Adamawa State for violating the Covid-19 safety and health protocols at the Port Harcourt International Airport and ex-Governor Abdulhkadir Yari fof Zamafa state for the same violation at the Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano.
In reaction, Minister of Aviation, Hadji Sirika had warned that those caught violating the mandatory protocols at the airport would be prosecuted and risked being jailed for between two months and 10 years.
In a swift reaction, DSS Spokesman, Peter Afunanya said in a tweet; “The attention of the Department of State Services has been drawn to the official release by FAAN that its staff was assaulted by the DSS Head of Formation at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
“We note with dismay that Safiyanu Abba, the head of DSS at NAIA, deliberately obstructed airport security process, and slapped an aviation security officer who was performing his duty,” the tweet read.
“FAAN also accused him of breaching security protocol at the Airport. So far, it has not been established that any FAAN staff was assaulted.
“DSS personnel are well mannered and could not have slapped or fought a worker of another agency.”
