Citizens were thrown into panic on Tuesday following an explosion in Jos, the Plateau state capital.
The incident was said to have occurred around 10:30 a.m. near the densely populated Terminus market area.
The police in the state could not be reached for comments at the time of publishing this report but residents were said to have scurried for safety
A cloth vendor, Gyang Buba who spoke on the incident said, “I was nearby when I heard a loud bang. I saw people running and screaming. It was terrifying.”
While some sources said that there might be fatalities, others stated that the level of damage caused by the blast could not be ascertained at the time of this report.
A security source said, “The area has been cordoned off as investigators begin to assess the situation. We are working to determine the cause of the explosion. We urge calm and assure the public that we will do everything possible to ensure their safety.”
Emergency services, including the police, fire department, and ambulance teams, are currently at the scene to assist.
