Ndigbo living in the 19 northern states have been cautioned against handling any threats to their security in the states with kid gloves even as the stakeholders have been assuring them of their safety.
Ukaha, a former lawmaker on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, stated this in an interview with our correspondent in Umuahia, the Abia state capital even as the Arewa Youths have withdrawn the ultimatum, arguing that the attached conditionality to the withdrawal was still pregnant with meaning.
Condemning the hate speeches and the anti-Igbo song in Hausa, which have trailed the notice and withdrawal, he called on the security agencies to treat the developments with the speed they required.
He expressed doubt over the reported withdrawal of the notice by the coalition, adding that they had not done enough to convince him of the safety of the people after the deadline.
He also appealed to them not to be carried away by assurances from both religious and political leaders of the states of their safety, but to be mindful of their environments and movements in the states.
“I want to use this forum to let them know that they are northerners living and going about their businesses here without being molested by anybody because of their tribe or religion,” he noted.
Ukaha, who represented the constituency from 2007-2015, joined other Nigerians in welcoming back
President Muhammadu Buhari from his medical vacation abroad, wishing him quick recovery.
He used the forum to urged him to use the remaining period of his administration to focus on the changes he promised the people during the electioneering campaign to sustain the confidence the electorate reposed in him.
Looking back to his period in the House, he maintained that he used it to not only contribute in making quality laws for the governance of the state, but also to attract democracy dividends to the constituency.
” I also used the period to empower both the youths and the indigenes through scholarships, skills acquisition and empowerments. Even as I speak, there are many students who are still on my scholarships,” he added.
